ZamScotEd: offering Zambia's kids a future

ZamScotEd – giving Zambian kids a future by supporting education

We're a Scottish-based charity that has supported the education of vulnerable children in Zambia since the late1990s (initially as the Mthunzi and Lilanda Initiative – M.A.L.I.).

For some years we funded the secondary education of children living at the Mthunzi Children's Programme. Then we envisaged building a secondary school to meet the educational needs of the wider community in the Chilanga area to the west of Lusaka, where no secondary education was available and where families live in poverty.

With match funding from Missio Scotland and the support of parishes, trusts, and individuals in the west of Scotland, we opened the first classroom block of St Columba's Day Secondary School in January 2016 – St Columba's because here in Argyll and the Isles, St Columba is very special to us.

We are partnered with the Zambian order of the Teresian Sisters – educational experts in both Zambia and Malawi. With funding from the Spanish organisations Manos Unidas and Africa Directo, three teaching blocks are complete, and a fourth is under construction.

ZamScotEd's commitment is to complete the interior of the third classroom block – the science department – and to furnish and equip it. We will also furnish the fourth classroom block.

With your help, we can achieve three of the UN's sustainable development goals: Goal 4, which seeks to provide every child with quality education, Goal 5, which strives for gender equality, and through these, Goal 1, which is to eliminate poverty.
